Components have a changelog similar to a Vehicle and when you make a change to the component it is stored on the component.

If a component is currently used in a Vehicle and you decide to update the component, the Vehicle will still stay referenced to the old version of the component that was swapped in. If you need to update the component on the Vehicle to the latest version, swapping the component to itself will update it.
